Land Area Calculator for Agricultural Land

Measure farm land, plots and fields — then convert between acres, hectares, square feet and verified regional units. Use your result directly in the fertilizer dose calculator.

How it works

Land area formulas

Land area formulasFormulaExample
RectangleArea = length × width100 m × 50 m = 5,000 m²
SquareArea = side²25 m × 25 m = 625 m²
TriangleArea = ½ × base × height½ × 40 m × 30 m = 600 m²
TrapezoidArea = ((side A + side B) / 2) × height((60 m + 40 m) / 2) × 30 m = 1,500 m²
Four sides + diagonalSplit into two triangles along the diagonal; solve each with Heron's formula and addExact — no approximation

How to calculate land area in square feet

If your dimensions are in feet, multiply: area in square feet = length in feet × width in feet. Example: 100 ft × 50 ft = 5,000 sq ft. Divide by 43,560 for acres, or by 9 for square yards. For irregular plots, divide the land into rectangles and triangles, calculate each, and add them — or measure a diagonal and use the 4-side mode above.

Why four sides alone are not enough

A quadrilateral can flex: the same four side lengths can enclose different areas depending on the angles. That is why no honest calculator gives an 'exact' area from sides alone. Measure one diagonal (corner to opposite corner) and the plot becomes two triangles — each with an exact area. Without a diagonal, only a labeled approximation is possible.

How to measure irregular land

Walk the field and divide it into simple shapes — rectangles, triangles, trapezoids. Measure each, calculate separately, and add the areas. The Irregular mode above does exactly this: add a section per part of your field and it totals them for you.

Sources & methodology

Universal units use exact SI and imperial definitions (1 acre = 4,046.8564224 m²; 1 hectare = 10,000 m²). Kanal and Marla use the Punjab revenue standard: 1 karam = 5.5 ft, 1 marla = 9 sq karam = 272.25 sq ft, 1 kanal = 20 marla = 5,445 sq ft. All calculations run in square meters internally and convert once to the display unit — no chained rounding.

FAQs

Measure length and width in the same unit and multiply: area = length × width. For odd shapes, split the land into rectangles and triangles, calculate each, and add them up.
Use the same geometry, then convert to the unit your region uses — acres, hectares, or local units like kanal and marla in Pakistan. This agricultural land area calculator converts automatically and can send the result straight to the Fertilizer Dose Calculator.
Enter your plot's length and width above and read the acre figure from the results — no manual math. If you measured in feet, the calculator converts square feet to acres automatically (43,560 sq ft = 1 acre).
Multiply length in feet by width in feet: 100 ft × 50 ft = 5,000 sq ft. One acre is 43,560 sq ft.
No. Four sides alone cannot fix a quadrilateral's area — the shape can flex. Measure a diagonal as well and the plot splits into two exactly-solvable triangles. Without it, only a labeled approximation is possible.
Multiply acres by 0.404686. One hectare equals 2.471 acres. Use the Converter mode above for any unit pair.
A hectare (10,000 m²) is about 2.47 times larger than an acre (4,047 m²). Hectares are standard in most countries; acres are common in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the US.
Yes — use the Irregular mode: divide your field into rectangles, squares, triangles or trapezoids, enter each section, and the calculator totals them.
Units like bigha, marla and kanal grew out of local revenue systems, so their size differs by province and convention. We only offer a regional unit where its conversion is verified — for example the Punjab revenue standard for kanal/marla — and we label the standard used.
Yes. Tap 'Use in Fertilizer Calculator' and your area, unit, country and region transfer automatically — no re-typing. You still pick your crop there, because area alone never determines fertilizer dose.
No. This tool gives useful estimates from your own measurements for farming decisions. Legal boundaries, disputes and official records need a qualified surveyor or the land revenue authority.
